There are many misconceptions about insurance coverage while employees are on the road. In this article, learn the facts about business travel coverage.

Myth: “Business Travel Accident (BTA) insurance only covers international work trips.”

Fact: It can cover both international and domestic travel, including client meetings across the street, trips to the office supply store, and even deliveries around town.

Myth: “Workers’ compensation covers business travel accidents.”

Fact:  Workers’ compensation provides coverage for on-the-job accidents and illnesses. If you arrive a day early to a conference and are accidentally injured, you may not be covered. BTA insurance complements workers’ comp by helping to fill potential gaps in coverage.

Myth: “Personal excursions taken during business trips aren’t covered.”

Fact: Business Travel Accident insurance can cover personal trips immediately before or after business travel.

Myth: “Business Travel Accident insurance only covers employees.”

Fact: A BTA insurance policy can cover different classes including employees, non-employee board of directors, spouses/domestic partners, children, and guests. (Eligible groups may vary by state.)

Myth: “Business Travel Accident policies are not flexible.”

Fact: Coverage and benefit options are customizable for businesses of all sizes and can be as specific as short-term coverage for a sales convention trip or as broad as 24-hour coverage.

Myth: “BTA insurance does not include emergency travel assistance.”

Fact: While not all BTA policies include 24/7 non-insurance travel assistance, there are options available to tailor your travel coverage with non-insurance travel assistance services, such as security evacuation and emergency medical assistance.
